Additional Notes | Built at Eastleigh on frames from Ashford. Only BR designed and built EMU class to have worked on 1500v DC and then (from 1960-62) 25kV AC. Originally DTSO; rebuilt to DTBSO c.1960-62; refurbished as BDTBSO c.1983; then converted by Hunslet Barclay (c.1994-96) as NAA Propelling Control Vehicle (PCV) to Diagram NA508 for use in mail train formations to enable push/pull movements at termini without locomotive having to run-round. Fitted with B5 bogies. Purchased from EWS for bogies spares. 08/18: at Carnforth, visible from WCML - sixth vehicle from the south in line of old RES vehicles as of survey date. 08/20: confirmed still at Carnforth. 03/23: scrapped on site by Ron Hull. |
