Additional Notes Car J. Underframe from a 1918 LNWR Ambulance coach. Remodelled 1937 with Bar counter; rebuilt as Observation Car in 1947 and sold to BR(M) 1957. P 1968. Brown/cream livery. For exterior, original matchboarding has been replaced by plywood sections: no roof vents: side window pillars are now aluminium rather than the original wood. However, interior (including seating, albeit with replaced non-authentic moquette) is almost entirely original. Carpet is replacement, interior layout not as original. Public address fitted. Bogies replaced in 2004: recollection is that are from a DMU vehicle. Car 13 was in use at the Swanage Railway over the festive period (2015-2016). 10/02/18: re-entered service, having been out of operational use for all of 2017 for major work replacing the bodywork and inspecting the frame and its wheels, plus fitting new carpet throughout, re-upholstering seats and external repainting.
