Additional Notes | Built as 6-wheel 5-compartment Third No. 232, but renumbered 666 before entering service in 1898. Renumbered 3186 by SECR in 1906; Rebuilt 1914 as a 3 compartment Brake Third (not renumbered). Modified 1920 by having centre pair of wheels removed, for block train use. Again rebuilt for service on the Isle of Wight, this time as a 4 compartment Brake Third with (again) Westinghouse brakes (had earlier been converted to vacuum). Renumbered to 4134 as part of IoW set 507. W 08/33 and grounded at Cliff Farm, Gurnard, West Cowes, Isle of Wight. Here, named "Serena". Donated to IoWR and recovered 11/11, when placed on underframe of LNWR 3061 for storage.
This was one of 12+ bodies at Gurnard. Most of these (but not this one) had been there since 1908/1918, possibly in connection with an adjacent gun emplacement. 11/11: this vehicle is currently accommodated on the u/f from LNWR 3061 (qv), as shown in the photo above. By 07/20: body now in under cover storage and no longer on the underframe of LNWR 3061.
