Recovered to Bluebell Railway 08/09 from a garden in Battle, East Sussex, where it had been placed between 1901 when the house was built and 1906 when the newspaper behind the cladding was printed. Then under a tarpaulin on an underframe at Horsted Keynes. Bodywork of Brake compartment is missing. Provenance (and date) uncertain but "221" and LBSCR crest are visible on one side. 07/10: timbers destroyed by fire; metal components were salvaged. 10/23: any eventual reconstruction will be of a replica, based on previous investigations of the body, the remains of which are now considered historic artefacts. |
