Additional Notes One of a series of First Class Saloons built by the LSWR for American liner traffic from Southampton Docks (hence "Eagle" saloons). 12 of these (numbers 40-42, 45, 46, 49-54, 56) sold to War Department in 1916 and to Palestine for use there as two six-coach ambulance trains. After WW1 and with further conversion to Palestine Railways as 309-318, 556 and 557. Remains of 314 and 316 now in the care of the Israel Railway Musueum, Haifa. This one (316) body and frame only and No. 314 is a complete shell on wheels. Both are in poor condition. 08/24: confirmed scrapped.
