Additional Notes Withdrawn 1972 as E1211E: the last wooden-bodied Sleeper in service in UK. Gresley heavyweight bogies. Under green sheet. Varnished timberwork in poor condition - varnish coming off. Some recent attention when seen 9/03. By 01/15: transferred to Bo'ness by 01/15 for restoration and inclusion in the Museum of Scottish Railways. By 08/17: exterior largely rebuilt and painted in BR Rail Blue and Pearl Grey livery, as withdrawn: one side to complete but well advanced. By 11/18: exterior bodywork rebuild complete, and painting, lining and lettering have been finished; on the interior, contractors have removed asbestos - a known problem - and this will be followed by interior reconstruction work. 12/19: work has concentrated upon the interior: the twin compartment has been completely refurbished along with the Thermotank equipment (does any other example of this exist in complete form?). The intention is to display this vehicle in the Museum of Scottish Railways along with the newly acquired Mk3 ex-Caledonian Sleeper 10580 (qv) as a walk-in exhibit illustrating the development of overnight transport. 11/20: interior refurbishment complete - Thermotank blown air system has been placed behind Perspex screens for public viewing; half the corridor has been restored to 1937 LNER condition with teak matchboarding and the other half has been restored to as-withdrawn 1972 condition; twin compartment has been restored, with new furniture and carpets.
