Extensively converted about 1960 to a mess van for the Swindon Brakedown Train. P 1981 and moved to SVR. By 08/06: one side now completely repanelled as part of rebuild under way at Bewdley Yard. By 10/2013: in use as workshop for 2857 Society. Ownership then transferred from 2857 Society to Great Western (SVR) Association by 11/14 and then to SVR (Holdings) by 04/17 in exchange for GWR 4786 (qv). 06/19: 5043 is now known as GWR 9581 (a number formerly carried by a Diagram H33 composite dining car) and is currently being extensively rebuilt at Bewdley by the LNER Carriage Group, into a wheelchair accessible saloon and buffet car for use with the SVR's GW2 set. This restoration project commenced in November 2017. 09/25: into operational service following restoration - and with low counter, a saloon area with integrated wheelchair spaces and an accessible toilet with outward-opening doors. |
