| Additional Notes |
Built in second half of 1867 to a Sinclair design but to a length of 26ft, unique for this style of carriage (all others built from 1858 were to lengths between 16ft and 24ft). Also, last carriage built to the Sinclair style, even though he had retired at the end of 1865 (and had been succeeded by Johnson in July 1866). Originally built for main line services from London to Norwich via Cambridge or Ipswich, seating 10 passengers in each compartment - initially with full height partitions, each compartment lit by a single oil lamp and no brakes but modernised c.1885 by replacing many of the fittings, wheels and springs and by the addition of brakes. Transferred to London suburban services by 1891 - with replacement buffers and gas lighting. W 06/1892 and sold 01/11/1892 for £6. Located at 'Kirkside & Barn', 30 Station Road, Waterbeach. 01/26: confirmed still in situ. |
