Additional Notes P 1978 by M&GNJRS. Last surviving complete Austerity design by Thompson. By 1990s: basic restoration as museum exhibition coach and occasional photo charters, located in platform 3 at Sheringham station. By 2004: replaced by museum building and stored out of use, but moved undercover after construction of carriage shed in 2008. Future under consideration: initially to be converted to passenger coach or conversion into LNER Pathé cinema coach but resources unavailable for either so offered for sale 08/23, after its place in the proposed 5-coach LNER set was taken by BTO 43556. After failure to rehome, authorisation to scrap vehicle given late 2024, then narrow escape in 05/25 following agreement of "rescue plan" to return the coach to static "mobile multi-purpose exhibition" vehicle with a more common Mark 1 BG being disposed of in 70621's place - reluctance to scrap unique LNER vehicle! Volunteer-led project now progressing to stabilise the vehicle and undertake limited conservation work to bring it back into use; exterior to be clad to protect original woodwork beneath and slow future degradation; where possible, modifications are being made with a view to reversal in the future if a proper restoration to original condition can be resourced.
