| Additional Notes |
Believed to be only surviving self-propelled light railcar of the inter-war years - petrol-engined until 1958/59, then diesel-engined. 1969: acquired by Island Vintage Transport Group for preservation after closure of Ryde Pier Tramway and moved to Wight Locomotive Society's Newport Station base. Body scrapped; chassis used as run-around. 2011: having been in store for a number of years, a project to reconstruct the railcar (and also a replica trailer - qv) for use on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway was begun, after recovering all re-usable parts. 2017: with Alan Keef Ltd of Ross-on-Wye to assemble the new chassis (incorporating a diesel engine donated Perkins Engines) and construct the body. 06/21: moved back to Isle of Wight Steam Railway from Alan Keef Ltd. 01/22: entered operational service. |
